Male rhinoplasty respects and reinforces masculine features: the dorsum stays straight (not concave as in female rhinoplasty), the tip firm and angular (not upturned), the frontonasal line defined and the nasolabial angle close to 90° (not opened to 100-110° as in female rhinoplasty). The goal: improve the profile without feminizing it.
Male rhinoplasty is nose surgery that respects and enhances male features: a straight dorsum, a firm, angular tip and a defined nasofrontal line. It seeks to improve the profile without feminizing it. It is mainly indicated for a dorsal hump, deviation after a blow, or breathing problems. Your evaluation takes place in Lima with Dr. María del Carmen Martínez, plastic surgeon.

How is it different from female rhinoplasty?
Male rhinoplasty has aesthetic parameters opposite to female rhinoplasty:
- Nasal dorsum: straight in men, slightly concave in women
- Nasal tip: angular and firm in men, rounded and upturned in women
- Nasolabial angle: close to 90° in men (vs. 100-110° in women)
- Width: a man can carry a wider nose than a woman
- Projection: the male nose can project further from the facial plane
Most common indications
- Pronounced dorsal hump (the most common complaint among men)
- Nasal tip drooping with age (restore firmness)
- Post-traumatic deviation (functional + aesthetic correction)
- Bulbous tip due to wide lateral cartilages
- Nose out of proportion with the rest of the face
- Breathing + cosmetic problems (septoplasty + rhinoplasty)
Open vs. closed technique
- Closed rhinoplasty: no external scar, all incisions inside. Ideal for simple primary surgeries.
- Open rhinoplasty: a small, invisible scar on the columella (between the nostrils). Allows millimeter-precise control in complex cases.
- Ultrasonic rhinoplasty: newer technology that shapes the bone with ultrasound instead of cutting instruments. Less bruising, faster recovery.
- Preservation rhinoplasty: a technique that preserves the original dorsum instead of removing it. More natural result.
When is it combined with septoplasty?
Often. Many men have a deviated septum that causes breathing difficulty + nasal asymmetry. Septorhinoplasty treats both in the same operation:
- Improves breathing (apnea, snoring, congestion)
- Corrects external asymmetry caused by an internal deviation
- One anesthesia, one recovery
- Partial insurance coverage sometimes, due to the functional component
Recovery step by step
- Day 1-7: external nasal splint, internal packing for 24-48 hours, peak swelling and bruising around the eyes
- Day 7-10: splint and suture removal, back to the office with slight visible swelling
- Weeks 2-3: 70% of the swelling is gone, result visible
- Months 1-3: gradual cardio, NO weightlifting or impacts
- Months 3-6: 90% of the result visible
- Months 12-18: stable final result; deep swelling of the tip disappears

Frequently asked questions
How much does a male rhinoplasty cost in Lima?
At Dr. Martínez's practice it costs from S/ 13,000 (≈ $3,500 USD) for simple rhinoplasty. Ultrasonic rhinoplasty costs from S/ 15,500. Functional + cosmetic septorhinoplasty costs from S/ 16,500. It includes surgeon's fees, anesthesiologist, operating room, nasal splint, tests and follow-up.
Will my nose look feminized?
Not with the correct male technique. Dr. Martínez plans respecting male parameters: a straight dorsum (not concave), a firm tip (not upturned), a 90° nasolabial angle. The goal is to improve your profile without changing your identity.
When will I see the final result?
70% at 3 weeks. 90% at 3-6 months. 100% at 12-18 months, once the deep swelling of the tip has fully resolved.
Are there visible scars?
Only with the open technique is there a small 4-5 mm scar on the columella (between the nostrils), invisible from a meter away. With the closed technique there are no external scars.
When can I return to sports?
Light cardio (walking, stationary bike) at 3-4 weeks. Weights at 6 weeks. Contact sports (soccer, basketball, martial arts) only at 3 months.
Does it improve breathing?
Yes, when combined with septoplasty. Purely cosmetic rhinoplasty does not improve breathing unless functional structures such as the turbinates or septum are corrected.
Will people be able to tell I had surgery?
If the technique is properly indicated, no. The goal of modern male rhinoplasty is a natural result that harmonizes with your face, not a «magazine» nose that draws attention.
