Rhinoplasty in Peru
Dr. Martínez has developed her own classification of Nasal Surgery. Primary Surgery is used to correct defects in a nose that has never been operated on.
Rhinoplasty in Peru is a cosmetic surgical procedure performed to improve the shape and function of the nose. If you are considering rhinoplasty in Peru, it is important to look for a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon. Research reputable clinics, read testimonials and schedule consultations to discuss your goals and possible results. Also, make sure you fully understand the surgical process, risks and post-operative care before making a decision.

Primary Rhinoplasty
Dr. Martínez always talks with patients before defining the outcome of a surgery. Because aesthetic results vary and are highly subjective, Dr. Martínez's philosophy is that every patient should be sure of the result they want. The ideal result is a very natural nose, although some patients want a more refined look, which can also be achieved depending on the type of surgery chosen.
Primary rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery in which the nose is corrected or reshaped for the first time. This procedure is performed to change the shape, size or function of the nose for aesthetic or medical reasons. It can address concerns such as the shape of the nasal tip, the bridge and the nostrils, among other aspects. It is important to consult a board-certified plastic surgeon to evaluate whether primary rhinoplasty is right for your needs and expectations.

Secondary Rhinoplasty
A secondary nose surgery or post-traumatic one will always be more difficult than a primary one. The tissue has already been operated on, which leads to fibrosis (internal scar tissue).
At our plastic surgery clinic we see many patients who have had previous Nasal Surgery or nasal trauma from a blow or accident. In these cases, Dr. Martínez carefully evaluates the current situation, recommending being very specific about the results you want and how they will be achieved.
Dr. Martínez classifies secondary surgeries as:
– Nasal reconstruction for under-reduction defects: These noses have generally undergone a previous surgery in which the structures were not adequately reduced.
– Nasal reconstruction for over-resection defects: These noses have undergone a previous surgery in which the nasal structures were excessively removed, leading to asymmetry and/or structural collapse.
A secondary rhinoplasty, also called revision rhinoplasty, is a surgical procedure that corrects or improves the results of a previous rhinoplasty. It may be needed if the patient is not satisfied with the results of the initial nose surgery or has functional or aesthetic problems after the first operation. This type of rhinoplasty can be more complex due to the previous changes to the nasal structure.

Functional Correction
We perform two types of functional corrections: septoplasty and turbinate cauterization.
Septoplasty: Corrects obstructive defects that affect breathing. These may be congenital or post-traumatic deviations.
Turbinate cauterization: The turbinates are structures located on the side wall of the nose. Their respiratory lining is very reactive to weather changes, dust mites, pollen, etc. They tend to enlarge in people who have a deviation or allergies. Radiofrequency turbinate cauterization is performed together with septoplasty. It increases airflow through the nasal passage. The ideal result is a very natural-looking nose; even so, some patients want more refined results, which can also be achieved depending on the type of surgery chosen.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a rhinoplasty cost in Lima?
At Dr. Martínez's practice, rhinoplasty costs from S/ 13,000 (≈ $3,500 USD) with the closed technique. Open or ultrasonic rhinoplasty costs from S/ 15,500. Functional + cosmetic septorhinoplasty costs from S/ 16,500. It includes surgeon's fees, anesthesiologist, accredited operating room, nasal splint and follow-up.
Are there visible scars?
With the closed technique there are NO external scars. With the open technique there is a small 4-5 mm scar on the columella (between the nostrils), invisible from a meter away. At 6-12 months it is practically imperceptible.
When will I see the final result?
70% of the result at 3 weeks, 90% at 3-6 months, 100% at 12-18 months, once the deep swelling of the nasal tip has fully resolved.
Is it very painful?
No. Most patients report more discomfort (a blocked feeling the first few days, slight tightness) than actual pain. It is controlled with oral pain relief for the first 3-5 days.
When can I return to sports?
Light cardio (walking, stationary bike) at 3-4 weeks. Weights at 6 weeks. Contact sports (soccer, basketball, martial arts) only at 3 months.
Does it improve breathing?
Yes, when combined with septoplasty. Purely cosmetic rhinoplasty does not improve breathing unless functional structures such as the turbinates or a deviated septum are corrected.
Can I choose how my nose will look?
Yes. In consultation we do a 3D simulation of your actual face to preview the result. Dr. Martínez plans while respecting your identity and facial proportions — the goal is to harmonize, not replace.
Can the nose “go back” to its original shape?
No. Once the bone and cartilage are shaped, the structure is permanent. What can happen is slight thickening due to chronic skin swelling (rare, <5%), which is treated with massage and local corticosteroids.
